What is a fire alarm system?

A fire alarm system detects fire early, warns occupants, and helps protect people and property. A complete service covers the supply of suitable equipment, professional installation, and formal commissioning to verify that the system has been designed, set up, and tested correctly. For non‑domestic premises in the UK, systems are expected to meet the requirements of the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005 and relevant standards such as BS 5839‑1, supported by a routine testing and maintenance regime.

Why choose Complii?

How we can help.

Protect your people, property, and business. Here’s why we’re the right choice for fire alarm supply, installation and commission.

The right system for your building

We match panels, detectors, call points, sounders, beacons, interfaces, and cabling to the risks and layout of your premises. You get a proportionate, future‑ready specification that supports insurance and compliance needs.

Minimal disruption during installation

Works are planned around your programme and other trades, with clear sequencing, permits, and site coordination. We keep noisy or intrusive activities to agreed windows so your operations can continue safely.

Verified performance at commissioning

Commissioning confirms correct installation, device addressability, zoning, cause and effect, audibility, and standby capacity. Defects are rectified before handover and you receive a certificate that demonstrates the system meets its design intent.

Complete documentation and training

You receive an operations and maintenance pack with user guides, zone charts, as‑fitted drawings, device schedules, and system downloads where applicable. We provide user training so your team can test, manage faults, and respond confidently.

Integration and monitoring options

Where required, systems can integrate with BMS, access control, sprinklers, smoke control, or remote monitoring for keyholder call‑outs. This improves response and supports business continuity.

Ongoing compliance support

We can provide planned servicing and 24/7 support, aligned to BS 5839‑1. Routine inspections, records, and timely remedials keep you audit‑ready and help extend system life.

Your questions answered.

  • Most non‑domestic premises follow BS 5839‑1 for design, installation, commissioning, and maintenance. Residential dwellings and mixed‑use schemes may also reference BS 5839‑6 for domestic parts. Your fire risk assessment and design brief confirm what is appropriate for your site.

  • Both are compliant when designed and installed correctly. Wired systems are ideal for new builds or where cable routes are straightforward. Wireless can reduce disruption and installation time in occupied or heritage buildings. A survey will confirm radio performance and battery life assumptions.

  • Engineers test every device and interface, confirm labelling and zoning, prove cause and effect, measure sound levels, check standby capacity, and verify fault monitoring. Only when the system performs as specified is a commissioning certificate issued.

  • Carry out a weekly user test and record results in your fire logbook. Arrange routine servicing in line with BS 5839‑1, typically at least twice a year, and after any significant works or changes in use.

  • Yes. We can provide commissioning‑only services, including surveys, snagging lists, pre‑commissioning guidance, and formal certification, provided the installation meets the required standard.

  • Category P systems are designed to protect property, safeguarding assets and business continuity. Category L systems prioritise life safety by providing early warning for safe evacuation. Your designer will advise the appropriate category and coverage for your building.
