Your questions answered.

  • Manufacturing facilities must comply with the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005, which requires a formal fire risk assessment and ongoing maintenance of fire detection, alarm, and suppression systems. Regular inspections under BS 5839-1 and BS 5266 ensure alarms and emergency lighting meet compliance standards and protect both workforce and assets.

  • Manufacturers must manage Legionella and waterborne bacteria risks under HSE ACoP L8 and HSG274. This includes regular Legionella risk assessments, temperature monitoring, and microbiological sampling. Any system that stores or recirculates water, such as cooling towers or process systems, must be maintained, disinfected, and documented for full compliance.

  • Manufacturing environments require Periodic Inspection and Testing (EICR) of fixed installations every three to five years, depending on system type and risk. All electrical compliance testing must be carried out by a competent NICEIC-approved engineer in line with BS 7671 (IET Wiring Regulations) to ensure ongoing safety and legal compliance.

  • Under COSHH Regulations 2002, manufacturers must assess and control worker exposure to airborne contaminants such as dust, fumes, and vapours. Regular air quality and LEV (Local Exhaust Ventilation) testing ensures compliance with HSG258 and protects employee health while demonstrating environmental responsibility.
