Your questions answered.

  • Construction sites must comply with the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005 and HSG168 (Fire Safety in Construction). This includes conducting site-specific fire risk assessments, maintaining clear escape routes, and installing temporary fire detection and alarm systems. Regular inspections help ensure the safety of workers and compliance with legal duties.

  • Temporary and stored water systems used during construction can pose Legionella risks if not properly managed. In line with HSE ACoP L8, systems should be regularly flushed, disinfected, and sampled to prevent bacterial growth. Proper water hygiene management supports both compliance and workforce health.

  • Electrical installations and temporary supplies on construction sites must comply with BS 7671 and BS 7375. Equipment and wiring should be inspected frequently by a qualified electrician to ensure ongoing safety, prevent faults, and reduce the risk of electrical incidents on-site.

  • Construction work generates dust, fumes, and airborne particles that can harm health. Under COSHH regulations, contractors must monitor air quality, control exposure, and use appropriate ventilation or extraction systems. Effective monitoring helps protect workers and maintain compliance with HSE standards.
