Your questions answered.

  • Hospitality and leisure venues must comply with the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005. Regular fire risk assessments, alarm and emergency lighting testing, and staff fire training are essential. Businesses should also review evacuation routes and equipment maintenance to protect guests, members and staff.

  • Hotels, spas and leisure centres are classed as higher risk under ACoP L8 and HSG274 due to complex water systems, such as showers, pools and hot tubs. Regular Legionella risk assessments, temperature checks, and microbiological sampling are critical to prevent contamination and maintain public health compliance.

  • All electrical installations must be tested every five years in line with BS 7671. Portable equipment used in kitchens, guest rooms and gym facilities should undergo regular PAT testing to ensure safety, reduce downtime and meet HSE and insurance standards.

  • Good air quality enhances comfort, wellbeing and compliance with workplace regulations. HVAC and air handling systems should be regularly cleaned and monitored to meet COSHH and CIBSE TM21 standards, ensuring safe, odour-free and well-ventilated spaces for guests and employees.
