Your questions answered.

  • Hospitals, clinics and care homes must comply with the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005 and HTM 05-02. Regular fire risk assessments, system maintenance and staff fire safety training are essential to protect patients and meet Care Quality Commission (CQC) standards for safe environments.

  • Healthcare environments must follow HSG274 and HTM 04-01 for water safety and Legionella control. Regular Legionella risk assessments, temperature monitoring and microbiological sampling help prevent infection risks from Legionella and Pseudomonas bacteria, safeguarding vulnerable patients.

  • Electrical installations should be tested in accordance with BS 7671 and HTM 06-01. Healthcare premises require robust inspection and testing programmes, including EICR testing every five years and regular portable appliance testing (PAT) to maintain safety and operational reliability.

  • Airborne contaminants can impact patient recovery and staff wellbeing. Compliance with HTM 03-01 and COSHH regulations requires routine air quality monitoring and maintenance of ventilation systems to control infection risks and ensure safe, clean air across wards and treatment areas.
