What is electrical remedial work?

Electrical remedial work is the corrective action taken to resolve defects found during an Electrical Installation Condition Report (EICR) or other inspection. It brings your fixed electrical installation back into compliance with BS 7671 and the Electricity at Work Regulations. Typical tasks include replacing damaged devices or conductors, correcting polarity and earthing, upgrading protective devices, restoring labels and schedules, and verifying the performance of circuits before returning them to service. On completion you receive the appropriate certification for your records.

Why choose Complii?

How we can help.

Protect your people, property, and business. Here’s why we’re the right choice for remedial work.

Legal compliance and insurer assurance

Fixing items coded C1, C2 or FI returns your installation to a safe condition and demonstrates that risks are being managed. This supports your legal duties and provides credible evidence for audits and insurers.

Immediate risk reduction

Dangerous conditions such as overheating, exposed live parts, or absent earthing are made safe and corrected. This protects people, plant, and property and helps prevent fire or shock incidents.

Planned works with minimal disruption

We phase isolations, work out of hours where needed, and coordinate with your team so critical operations continue. Clear method statements and permits keep people safe while work proceeds efficiently.

Transparent pricing and priorities

You receive a plain English schedule that groups defects, sets priorities, and identifies quick wins. This helps you control budgets, bundle tasks, and avoid surprise costs.

Certified outcomes and clear records

On completion you receive Minor Electrical Installation Works Certificates or Electrical Installation Certificates as appropriate, updated distribution schedules, and photo evidence. Documentation is aligned to your EICR so the audit trail is complete.

Future ready improvements

Where sensible we recommend proportionate upgrades such as RCD or RCBO protection, surge protection devices, or improved discrimination. These enhance safety, resilience, and maintainability over the long term.

Your questions answered.

    • C1 danger present. Make safe immediately and correct without delay.

    • C2 potentially dangerous. Urgent remedial work required.

    • FI further investigation. Investigate promptly to determine risk and action. C3 items are improvements recommended. They are not mandatory to achieve a satisfactory outcome but are often sensible to plan.

  • Not usually. The contractor will test and certify the affected circuits or boards and issue the appropriate certificates. A full re test is not typically required until your next periodic inspection, provided all C1, C2 and FI items have been resolved.

  • Some tasks require temporary isolation of circuits or distribution boards. We plan these with you, use out of hours windows where appropriate, and keep any shutdowns short and clearly communicated.

  • You will receive Minor Works or Installation Certificates, updated circuit schedules, labels, and a completion summary that cross references your EICR observations. Keep these with your EICR as evidence of compliance.

  • A competent, qualified electrical contractor should carry out remedials to BS 7671. Many clients prefer third party approved companies, for example NICEIC approved contractors, for added assurance.

  • C1 hazards must be made safe immediately, then remedied as a priority. C2 items should be addressed urgently within an agreed timescale that reflects the risk and your operational needs. FI items should be investigated promptly to confirm the correct course of action.
